Niko is a PhD student in the Department of Biostatistics and Health Informatics of the IoNPP, focusing on incorporating Open Data Models in Large Language Models (LLMs). His research aims to incorporate a semantic understanding of medical data in LLMs to facilitate the reliable analysis of electronic health record (EHR) data on a larger scale. Under the supervision of Professor Richard Dobson and Professor Vishnu Chandrabalan, their project aims to develop an LLM framework for the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership Common Data Model (OMOP CDM). Studying medicine at Heidelberg University and economics at the University of Mannheim, this project combines his interest in applying analytical approaches to clinical data. He has worked on several data-driven projects, including the HeiPoDD project of the anaesthesiology department of the Heidelberg University Hospital and the Innovative Medicine Initiatives Paincare Biopain (IMI-Paincare Biopain) project on finding biomarkers for chronic pain. These positions brought him valuable insights in relational databases, graph representations, and joint analyses of clinical data using AI.
